My most memorable experience with reiki and death came several years ago
now.
My husband received a phone call as we sat down to dinner. a co-worker
called to tell him that his office-mate and friend had been taken to the
hospital suddenly after collapsing with a heart attack. We left the meal
unfinished and went directly to the hospital.
I did reiki for the friend by holding him in the light, between my hands, as
we drove. The energy was extremely strong, and had a very steady, almost
magnetic flow.. very tactile.
When we arrived at the hospital the emergency room nurse took my
husband aside and told him his friend had died. The family had already left.
The nurse asked if we would like to sit with the deceased for a while. We
went into the ER cube and spent about a half hour with my husband's friend,
praying for him and doing reiki.
Even though the heart had stopped there was still a lot of "life energy"
present. The sense of his friend's presence was also very strong. The flow of
reiki was clear and steady. It was a very deep honor and privilege to spend
this time with him and to be able to assist in this way. It was a sacred
experience.

>>As one who practices Reiki, labels are interesting to me. Am I a healer, a
practitioner, a believer? I do know that my intention is always for the greatest
good of all concern. I personally believe that Reiki is supplemental and in
addition to other healing modalities, including traditional Western
approaches. Healing, especailly self-healing seems to come in many forms.
Sometimes complete remission and tranformation of conditions and
symptoms happens. Sometimes relief from stress and anxiety allows the body
to heal itself more effectively, and sometimes, a person, for many and
whatever reasons, medical and spiritual, does not recover and dies. Death is
in a final way a form of healing. It is a release and relief from suffering and
pain. As one involved in Reiki, is there anyone appropriate response when a
client moves on and dies during the process of receiving our love and care
and universal flow of life energy?

>>This new year has brought me into contact with three deaths. One
individual never sought Reiki. His wife had experienced Reiki. My
involvement was sitting with her at his side as he passed. She asked that I
drum, and offer Reiki to help him let go into his transition. I held my hand on
his heart chakra as he took his last breath. I continue to offer her Reiki as she
goes through grieving.

>>Another man had been coming to our Reiki share for a few months. He
had Parkinson's. Reiki helped him relax and eased the tremors and stress.
He and his wife completed levels I and II during this time. His wife was able
to move through Level III. On his way Israel, he had a seizure while in flight
and passed. On receiving the news our share was saddened of course. She
had moved away from the community. At our last share we lit candles and
offered her distance Reiki for clean grieving, and offered him distance Reiki to
assist in his moving into the light.

>>The third man was elderly and had been dealing with cancer. He had never
been to Reiki share. His ex-wife has been a semi-regular to the group. She
shared her news last night. When we lit candles for the other gentlemen, we
included her ex in distance reiki for clean tansition and for her clean grieving.

>>I know this post is long. I suppose I am trying to see if others have used
Reiki in the healing/ grieving process that comes along with death.
