Hi Sara!
Welcome to ReikiAloha.com!
First of all, please do not consider yourself to be a beginner. Reiki is different; each teacher is unique and approaches it somewhat differently... unless s/he belongs to an organization/school which stresses uniformity. The way I conceive of it, there are no beginners; neither are there any "experts". (If anyone considers her/himself to be an expert, we obviously disagree - a Venus/Mars sort of thing.)
There are exceptions but, in general, I find it easiest to teach those who have few preconceived notions about Reiki. For students who come to me from other Reiki teachers, or after having read books or web pages written by others, my first task is to help them unlearn.
I do not schedule regular classes - I do not solicit students, and I'm sure you noticed that information on contacting me is sparse (except via ReikiAloha message boards). I consider the prospect of teaching as people find me. Classes are by appointment, and are typically one-on-one, although I have taught sisters, friends, spouses - even complete strangers who contacted me around the same time.
If you prefer a larger class, where the teacher is not as selective as I, and can perhaps better accomodate your schedule, you may want to shop around.
You do not need to know much, or anything, about Reiki itself before taking a class, but you may want to do another kind of "homework" - try to find out where your prospective teacher is coming from in terms of Reiki. There is no right or wrong way, only what resonates with you as an individual. If you tend to trust your intuition, that may be another way to go.
Prices, I prefer not to discuss publicly, nor even with prospective students if that is their primary concern. I say this even though I am aware that most use numbers (including dollars) as a measuring stick - in this case to gauge affordability, or what is a bargain. I do not want people coming to me based on cost considerations - I prefer they come to me for my approach to Reiki and teaching of it.
