Until recently, we had installed, were using at this site, a succession of fairly sophisticated, independent (written by different authors) software packages. These included "content management systems", bulletin board (forum) systems and "blog" (Weblog) software. Each implemented its own login system, maintained its own user database - required multiple registrations per individual.
New versions and recommended upgrades were frequent, sometimes being fairly complex (not very intuitive). When one of these upgrades went wrong, I debated whether to restore from backup (also not very intuitive) or begin again from scratch.
I opted for the latter, not only for the immediate problem, but for all major functions. My preference is for simplicity - not "flash". Integration and ease of customization/maintenance are key - keeping up with the Joneses is not.
For those who have been with us for a while, or remember us from years ago, some of this may appear familiar. However, the systems of old are no more; "under the hood", modules are being assembled, connections made, from the ground up.
Simplicity, integration, customizability, ease of maintenance - these are our guidelines... This site is "under construction".
