I had tried GnuCash before, but, at the time, it didn't seem worth the time learning to use another software, when the one I had been using, Quicken, did everything I needed to.

Recently, my personal computer has been showing signs of age - that it may not last much longer. Yesterday, I bought an inexpensive "backup" computer, in anticipation of the day when our primary one no longer works. Since I cannot install new software from CD or DVD, today I tried purchasing a newer version of Quicken online - intending to download it. During the checkout process, I was asked if I already had an account. I did, and I tried logging in, but was unsuccessful using the username and password I had recorded. To make a long and frustrating story short, I couldn't log in, to either my existing acount, or the new one I tried to create - I kept looping back to the login prompt. The system wouldn't allow me to get far enough to purchase and download the product.

GnuCash began looking better and better. I downloaded the most recent stable release and followed the instructions for exporting data from Quicken, to import into GnuCash. My multiple accounts balanced perfectly.

I will use both programs in parallel until I'm confident I'm using GnuCash appropriately, at which point...
