They are going to be a memorable couple of days, yesterday and today.
Yesterday, the day after Christmas, sometime after 6:30 pm, the lights, and power, went out over most of Oahu.
I was sitting at this computer, updating another Web site, when it happened... Writing this just made me realize that I have a computer time-stamp of the last file I edited and saved prior to the outage: 18:51 (6:51 p.m. yesterday).
Having experienced something similar, but different, a couple of years ago (see Hawaii Earthquake, A Long Day), I was prepared at least to the extent of having an emergency battery-operated radio, not to mention emergency lights.
I learned from tuning in to KSSK, a local radio station, that this wasn't just a local phenomenon - many (most) parts of the island were affected...
I won't go into the details of how I passed the time... Eventually I was able to fall asleep and dreamed that when I awoke, the power was back on. The reality was, when I awoke this morning, the power was still off, as I prepared for and made my way to work - in the dark...
The power gradually came on at different times, at different locations, around the island. It was 11:34 a.m. when the power came on where I was - I made it a point to look at my "watch"...
Again, I won't go into the details of how I spent my time at work, but it was a unique learning experience, as I had to deal with/adapt to the power outage at my job... A mishap can turn into a positive experience, looked at from the proper perspective...
