I hadn't been to Rainbow Drive-In since they renovated. Yesterday, I took the number 13 (Campbell Ave) bus through Waikiki, got off at the first bus stop after Ala Wai Blvd, then walked up the rest of the way. (The stop in front of former Harpo's Pizza has been discontinued.) The setup appeared familiar, the printed menu boards new.
Fried chicken ($6.50) was the only special remaining on the chalk boards, it being near the end of the day. Their fried chicken is different. If I remember correctly, a half-chicken deep-fried. They are made to order, so a little longer wait, but pretty good.
They have three order/pick-up windows, one a double, so four lines could form. I stood in line at the middle window. After a short while, a lady appeared there and waved me over to the left, side window, where she took my order.
I decided on my old favorite, Mix Plate, to see if I still liked it. I did. At $6.50, tax included, it is still one of the best deals in town for local-style food and quick service.

>>Comments: Teriyaki beef, boneless chicken, mahi mahi with rice and macaroni salad. I had this yesterday. Generous portions at a reasonable price. (All their prices are tax included - so the price you see is what you pay.)

>>TheBus: From Waikiki, take the number 13 that reads "Waikiki - Campbell Ave" ("Liliha" goes in the opposite direction). Get off on Kapahulu Ave. at Harpo's Pizza. If you reach the terminus, you've past it - just walk back one bus stop.
