Having previously only heard/read about this place, I happened by Sunday morning, saw that it was open and decided I should try it at least once.
Looking at the hours, it's no wonder I never noticed it open before:
Wed, Thur, Fri: 10:00 am - 4:30 pm
Saturday, Sunday: 9:00 - 4:30 pm
Weekdays, I'm tied up with work, all the way across town. Having always seen it closed, I guess I never really paid attention to it on weekends, when shopping at Longs or Times (Kaimuki). The place is sort of tucked away, and doesn't really jump out at you.
I ordered a couple of "PLAIN hamburgers", just to see what this would be like. When offered a choice of dressing, I just said "everything", so it came with mayo, ketchup, relish & mustard. As the "Bar-B-Q Burger" in the name implies, they specialize in "B.B.Q.", or teriyaki (local-style bar-b-q) burgers, so the "plain" was only in comparison to their other offerings. It was a plain teriyaki burger, and so was flavorful all by itself - a cut above an ordinary burger. Having passed the taste test, next time I'll order the works, the "ROYAL hamburger": lettuce, tomato, onion & cheese, for just 40 cents more, maybe with some fries on the side.
