Queen's Super Market
1010 Kaili St.
Honolulu, HI 96819
(808) 841-8699
This market specializes in Korean grocery items - including several different types of kimchee (or kim chee). These can be purchased either already packaged in plastic jars or bags, or loose, by weight. Many Korean people I have spoken with prefer Queen's kimchee to Palama's.
My favorite is kimchee made from won bok (Chinese cabbage), which I normally buy in plastic jars.
Besides kimchee, there are a variety of other food and non-food items. At home, my favorite pair of chopsticks are the Korean type, made from stainless steel. Queen's carries this type of chopstick.
Recently I have begun buying their mixed dried beans. [I add few spoonfuls to uncooked rice, wash them together, then soak overnight before cooking as usual. Resembles Japanese sekihan, so I sometimes sprinkle roasted sesame seeds onto the cooked rice.]
Near the entrance is a counter where a variety of already-cooked, and cooked-to-order, foods are sold.
